WHAT A GREAT POST

Wh…

this is the most beautiful of all posts

one of my fave songs, will always know all the words

Sophomore year of high school my World History teacher played this and after school I made my mom take me to the store so I could buy a Billy Joel (who I had never heard before) CD and memorize all the lyrics to this song. Which I did.

I imagined myself very indie and cool.

Reblogging for the sheer effort of all those links.

I listen to this when I’m writing and it really sets the “apocalyptic doom” mood well.

The “Dread Gazebo” is one of those inside jokes that everybody in the D&D/RPG community is supposed to know, but that makes it really hard to actually learn.  Everyone references it, but nobody actually tells the original story.  I played D&D for years before I got up the nerve to ask why everyone made jokes about gazebos.

Just in case any of my followers my be in the boat.  Here’s a link to the original story.

And here’s the story about the story.

DO NOT ANGER THE GAZEBO

the Dread Gazebo story has reached mythic proportions

Never was their a story of more woe

Than of D&D

and the Dread Gazebo

Let sleeping gazebo’s lie

DO NOT AWAKEN THEM

@asigiri-aeda

So my supervisor had to leave work early the other day, when it was raining and the wind was blowing pretty hard.  I asked him what was up, and he said “yeah, so we have this metal gazebo in our backyard, and apparently it came loose and is blowing around my neighbor’s yard, so I gotta go get it.”

Me, knowing the reference would sail right over his head but still feeling a bone deep need to say it: “So what you’re saying is the gazebo monster has broken loose and must be captured?”

The Curious Case of May Parker

It’s happening in the cartoons, too:

Aunt May (and Ms. Lion) from Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1980s)

Aunt May from Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1990s)

Aunt May from The Spectacular Spider-Man (2000s)

Aunt May from Ultimate Spider-Man (2010s)

True facts: Every time Peter’s uncle Ben dies in the latest origin story May absorbs the life force left over from his remaining years and uses it to rejuvenate herself

Uncle Ben dies over and over again to keep her young
